MHA #1, AKA Reno-and-Rikku-Land, Saturday, Midday

Rikku was humming as she decorated the apartment. Because she didn't really know much about this holiday, but it was all kinds of cheerful, and that was good enough for her.

"You're lucky you're cute," she told the little ball of feathers sitting on the dining room table. "Because I am seriously tempted to go fiend-hunting without you. I need supplies, Momo needs practice, it's a win-win. You could take care of yourself, right?"

Actually, he'd probably be killed by one of the other pets inside of a day. Petey wouldn't mean to maim him. He'd just play too rough.

"Maybe I toss you into my leg-pouch?"

Because, seriously. He'd fit.

Oh, hello, hand. With the current state of Reno's behind (falling onto a butt that bony hurt extra, okay?), he was going to need the help pulling himself to his feet.

"... Really? I didn't get to kick the big bad in the friggin' teeth, even?"

No, Reno really hadn't had any idea how long he'd been a chocobo.

"... Shit, I didn't miss class too, did I?"

"No teeth-kicking," Rikku sighed. "I even stayed behind so you wouldn't be stuck with Petey. Invasion's over, and so are classes. It's been a while."

Tugging Reno up might lead into wrapping her arms around Reno's waist, once he was standing. She didn't figure he'd mind.

"Although ... I wouldn't say you missed class," she added.

Reno was now making faces, in the middle of that very welcome hug.

".... And why wouldn't you say that?"

See how little Rikku looked intimidated by that? Because she wasn't. At all.

"I taught the final for you," she explained. "I mean, you were in no condition to teach."

That was half of an answer.

"Well... no," he allowed, "I guess I wasn't..."

That look that he was giving her suggested that he wasn't completely satisfied with that answer.

"How'd they do?"

"I just told them they all passed," she shrugged. "They survived an invasion. Whatever they did must have worked."

It seemed logical enough to her.

Reno cocked a lopsided grin at that, and then laughed a little.

"Hey, works for me, yo. They passed the practical."

"Some of them were a little shaken up," she admitted. "Bad week. It wouldn't have been nice to give them a real final, anyway."

She leaned up to steal a kiss. "But you did a fabulous job of cheering them up. So that helped."

"Well, of course I did," Reno smirked. "I'm friggin' adorable, yo."

He probably raspberried at the whole damn class. That sounded about right to him.

"... You didn't see any that were worse off than the rest, did you? You think maybe I should check up on 'em?"

Rookie syndrome was now kicking in.

"A couple," she said. "Ino apologized for missing class, and didn't seem herself. You should ask her what that's about. And Raven ... I didn't want to pry, but she said she was scared about hurting people. Couldn't hurt to talk to her, either."

Reno pursed his lips thoughtfully, making the mental note, and then nodding.

"I'll see if I can find 'em both," he agreed. "How long was I out of commission, then? It ain't break already, is it?"

Excuse Rikku while she reached for some tinsel. And tossed it, lightly, at Reno's hair.

"It is," she said, "but only just barely. You've been out of it for ... a week and a half? It's Saturday, just after classes are done for the year."

"Ugh," moaned Reno, glancing up at the tinsel, and then just shrugging and leaving it sit there. "I guess it could be worse, yo. I could'a been stuck like that through the break, too."

Because, you know, he totally had big plans for the break, right?
