Today? Today was Reno's birthday. He wasn't a teenager any more. She was going to tease him a lot about being oooooold.

When he woke up. Because they were celebrating in Fandom this weekend, since his home was kinda depressing (no offense) and her home had everybody in everybody else's business (downside of living in a commune of sorts) and neither would allow for a nice, relaxing weekend spent cuddling and not ever getting out of bed, ever.

Rikku was mostly asleep, and trying to convince herself to go back to all asleep. And wondering if Reno was up. She'd trade "back to sleep" for "morning gropey times" if he was. She was flexible like that.

(Reno modded with permission. THIS POST IS FOR: Reno, and anyone who might call Rikku or Reno frantically to panic about their AU sprog. Nice, relaxing weekend? Fandom laughs at this idea! Wait for ze OCD!)

"You're twenty," Romeo informed him. "Happy birthday! What is it like? I keep telling Dojima she's elderly, but she rolls her eyes. I'm afraid it's lost its sting."

"You know, it's a lot like bein' nineteen, only it involves more bein' in bed with Rikku, so far," Reno laughed. "If I start feelin' aches in my joints or developin' wrinkles, you'll be the first one I let know. How's that sound?"

"I'll be checking my messages by the hour," Romeo told him. "Where are you that you get to spend your birthday in bed with Rikku? And tell her hello from me. From us."

He figured Yurika wouldn't mind.

See, that was totally out of the way now, so that he couldn't possibly forget if there turned out to be more distracting matters to look forward to later.

"We're in Fandom, man. Booked a room at the hotel for the weekend, figured it'd be better'n hangin' out in Edge or dealin' with the gossips on Spira, yo."

"An excellent plan. I still haven't been back," Romeo said idly. "I suppose I'll fix that in a few weeks ... does anything look different?"

"Not that I noticed, really. But we got in late. Didn't bother swingin' by Prom to harass the kids or nothin'. Mostly just got in and crashed."

He leaned his head back, eyeing the ceiling while he smirked to himself. "Listenin' to see if I can hear the pitter-patter of little kid feet out there. That time of year an' all, yo."

"Our apartment is free of children," Romeo reported. "Thankfully. Twice was entirely enough for that experience."

"Yeah, I ain't really up for sendin' more of 'em through a portal at the end of the weekend. That's always a shitty way to start a new week."

... Shut up. Maybe Reno cried a little whenever he sent them home.

"I just got exhausted chasing mine around all weekend," Romeo observed. "Juliet's daughter -- that was hard."

He figured Kaz and Hana would show up for real in good time (by which he meant in another decade or so).

"Yeah," Reno sighed. "Rede wasn't exactly easy to handle, either. So if Fandom wants to go ahead with the not bein' friggin' cruel to us, then I'm good with that."

Reno was total faith that someday there would be a Ruba running around. 'Someday,' likewise, was not even remotely soon.

"Absolutely," Romeo agreed. "So do you have any plans for your visit, other than staying in bed with Rikku and teasing anyone who shows up with a child?"

"Not workin'," Reno laughed. "Beyond that, I ain't really given it much thought. Any suggestions, man?"

"Don't work," Romeo said. "That would be my professional opinion. Try to have a drink you've never tried at Caritas."

"Ooh," Reno replied appreciatively. "A challenge! Fortunately, I think I'm up to the task, yo!"

Oh, he was so up for it. And he'd enjoy it all the more while watching unsuspecting parents attempt to wrangle children about.

Just because he wouldn't be on the podium didn't mean he couldn't flash the crowd, here.
