MCA -2, AKA The New Reno-and-Rikku-Land, Friday Afternoon

It was a very ecstatic Rikku who was barreling into the apartment, full speed and full volume. "Reno! You'd better be here! Guess what, guess what, guess WHAT!"

If she didn't find him in five minutes, she might just go without him. So there.

(Okay, she wouldn't really. Still.)

"Of course I called Portalocity," Rikku said. Duh. "Apparently it's just some island out in the middle of nowhere but he got attacked by a huge fiend, right at the start of some big underground pit. He said the ruins might go on for miles. Bare minimum, there's a big-assed fiend to take down."

Which would be disappointing, but still a pretty fun vacation.

"You have five minutes to pack. Anything more and I'm going without you."

Like Reno was going to grab more than a toothbrush, here.

"Yeah, like I couldn't catch up with your slow ass even if I did take longer," Reno laughed, and then lifted Mako up, setting the ferret on his shoulder. "Mako an' I are always ready to go. You know that, yo."

Mako honked his agreement. Or else he just heard his name and got excited. One of those things.

"Maybe grab a toothbrush and a clean pair of underwear," Rikku called out as she disappeared into the bedroom. "So you aren't stinky and gross by the end of it. Are you really bringing Mako?"

Because that might be cute, unless Mako got hurt, which wouldn't be so very much.

"Well, unless you wanted to leave the dumbfucks with Barry or something, they'll probably eat each other before we get back," Reno reasoned, poking Mako's nose, and then patiently letting the ferret merrily gnaw on his fingertip. "I was just gonna leave him with whoever's at the camp before we head down, yo."

He didn't trust Barry not to feed his ferret coffee or rig him up with a jetpack or something.

"Unless you got a better wark."

Wait, that was wrong.

And the ferret on his back was suddenly huge.

"Good point," Rikku agreed. "Even leaving food won't keep them from .... Reno?"

That had sounded oddly like a wark. And as she wandered back into the living room, she noticed a distinct lack of lanky Turk and a distinct existence of, you know.

A tiny red chicobo.

Which was adorable, and there would be some cuddling and snuggling in a moment. For right now, as Rikku watched the dream vacation slip away from her ....

"Ohhhhhhhhhh, come on, that is so not cool!"

Yeah, Rikku, you thought this sucked? Try being the baby bird currently having your head chewed on by an excited weasel.

Reno gave a mournful 'kweh,' feathers fluffing indignantly, and tried to wiggle his way out from under Mako, who was having absolutely none of that.

"Nonononono," Rikku gasped, jumping forward for a brave rescue of the tiny chicobo from the evil, dangerous ferret. Who was probably just saying 'hello' in his own overexcited manner, but still. "No chewing the Daddy, Mako."

The chicobo nuzzled her fingers affectionately, hugely grateful for his rescue. Hey! Hi! Hi!

She grumbled, but couldn't help a small laugh at the same time. "You are lucky you're so damn cute."
