Room 308, Wednesday Evening - Chilling Out

So that Umbridge lady seemed kinda mean, and Hermione certainly hadn't liked her very much. That was bad.

But how much trouble could a principal be? Really. Seriously. Besides, she and her Jude-dude had made up and therefore, all was right with the world. Plus Deadpool hadn't come looking for her yet about the car. That was a bonus.

So Rikku was sprawled out on her bed, humming to herself and bopping a little. And maybe looking over a ... letter. 'Cause tomorrow was Thursday and, well, no reason. Just, you know. Couldn't hurt.

Her door was wide open.

"Ah, sorry, I didn't realize you'd gotten past the yelling part," Isabel replied. "Being nice is definitely something. But doubting the religion part of it? Yeah, I understand that."

"You ... you've got bad experiences, too?" Rikku asked, munching on another piece of chocolate. "Seems like a lot of people have."

"Not particularly," Isabel shrugged. "I mean, no one has ever said I should be executed for questioning it. But I just wonder sometimes...you know, why? And then I look at the rules and the traditions and some of them are nice. But others? Now? They make no sense. Which I suppose makes me just like half the rest of the people in the world."

"Karal says some of them are different," she shrugged. "And really about helping people and doing good, and I'm just ... I don't know. It's too weird to think about, I guess. Why use something so broken to ... why not find something else? But I said that and he gave me a weird look."

"I think partly because of tradition," she said. "And partly because if you really, truly believe? Well I guess you'd have a hard time giving up something that's an important part of your life."

[RL calls. Back later this afternoon/evening.]

"Couldn't say," she shrugged. "We Al Bhed never bought into any of that. Yunie did. Made it harder for her, when we found out. I mean, it crushed her, you know?

"Yeah," Isabel said. "It's hard when the things you believe in turn out to be lies."

"Not really a way around it," Rikku said, chewing on her lip. "I mean, the alternative's kinda, 'don't believe in anything' and that's ... kinda a crappy way to live, you know?"

"No, I get that." Isabel sighed, and looked down. "I tend to believe in things I can actually put my hands on. Friends, family...things like that."

Rikku nodded, considering for a few moments, and then said, "So what about Fate? 'Cause I usually think Fate's kinda just ... more words for the same thing, but ... then weird things happen and I start wondering."

She looked away, remembering how she'd been running from Destiny when she came to Fandom. "I don't know. I have issues with fate, or destiny. Whatever you want to call it. I have one. I'm not happy with it. But at the same time? I can't just walk away."

"It's ... it can be kinda reassuring, sometimes," she said uncertainly. "I mean, my Godhand, it's ... it's a legendary weapon thing that's, like, ancient. But it was meant for me, and I used it, and we ... we saved the world, yeah? And then I think about it just sitting there in Mushroom Rock, like, who made it? When? How did they ... then my brain starts to hurt."

She hugged her knees. "I don't think you ever can. Walk away, I mean. It's kind of ... it'll find you either way, yeah? If it's real. And if it isn't, then ... maybe things aren't what you think."

"When your brain starts hurting it's time to stop thinking and take things on faith. Which in theory brings us back to the whole religion thing." Isabel shook her head. "We might need more chocolate."

Not that she reached for any. "I could walk away. But then I'd have the fate of a planet full of people on my conscience. I don't think I can live with that."

"Saving the world, in general, sucks," Rikku observed, making a face. "'Cause even when you manage it, you gotta bury the bodies while everybody else has the afterparty and whoa, this topic sucks." She popped another piece of chocolate. "What's new with you? Other than world-saving."

Isabel embraced the subject change whole heartedly. "Not much actually. I've just been hanging out and occasionally working on my tan. Peter and I went to the beach last weekend. We had a nice time."

"Oooooh! I haven't been to the beach enough lately. Except in Florida, but that was mostly to blow things up." She grinned. "Which Peter? 'Cause there are a lot and a couple of them are in my cabin but one of 'em never showed."

"You should. The beach here is nice," she said, smiling a bit. "Peter Petrelli. Or Steve Peter per radio."

"Yeah, it's awesome," she agreed, smiling a little bit dreamily. "Oooooh, I don't think I know that one. We had a Peter Peventy or something, with a really cool accent, and a Peter Parker, who didn't show up, but I think that's the Peter who's another co-minion."

"He's a sweetie," Isabel replied, smiling even more. "As are the other two. They were both on StuCo with me last year. Really, really, really good guys."

"The accent-one seemed very nice and someone said he's a king, but he said I totally don't have to call him that or anything. I think he and Aravis know each other, from, like, before?" She shrugged. "And I'm still sad we didn't get to have a cage match. The minions, I mean. That would have been cool."

"He is," Isabel nodded. "But he doesn't make a big deal about it. And yeah, I think they do."

"What's this about minions?"

"That's kinda cool. Reminds me of Yunie, I mean, she's not queen or anything, but she's kind of ... you know. High Summoner Yuna and people bow and she makes them stop 'cause it's weird." She grinned. "Oh! The mentor thing? We got Deadpool. He calls me li'l minion and we were supposed to have a cagematch but it didn't happen yet which sucks because dude."

"I can totally see people bowing to Peter. But then I think about all the planning and stuff we've done for StuCo and it's not an issue." Of course Isabel also has a brother that's a king. But in her mind, he's always going to be Max first and foremost.

"A cage match? For fun? Why?"

"Yeah. I mean, Yunie's just Yunie, you know?" She smiled. "Too busy running around Spira with Tidus to be in charge or whatever they want this time. Oh! Did I ever show you? The pictures?!"

And then she laughed. "Because! You know! Weapons and barbed wire and going in there and ... sparring! Like with Deadpool only all NO HOLDS BARRED and messing things up, yeah!?"

"No! You didn't. I want to see the happy ending!" she gleed before shaking her head. "Obviously we have very different ideas of fun."
