Except there was that part of him that worried that bringing it up himself and saying to Tseng, 'touch my girl and you die,' wasn't really going to do anything to improve Tseng's notion that Rikku was bad for Reno's loyalty to the Turks. That part of him that was damn certain that killing Tseng wasn't going to make up for anything if Rikku was already dead because Reno went and flapped his lips when he shouldn't have.
He'd make it clear in more subtle ways. Tseng wasn't blind, either.
